Business aspect

In terms of the business aspect of our product. Now for a potted plant which automatically water itself is revolutionary and tackles a vital issue of water management ( vital natural resource). Now our problem solves this issue- More than two trillion gallons of water are still lost every year, and a significant portion of this loss comes from undetected leaks caused by irrigation systems. This is by the alarm system which comes with the plant and automatically regulates its moisture and water content. The final price of the product would sum up to 45$ which is reasonable considering its additional features requiring no manul input or energy spent maintaining the plant and assures a long and carefree life.

Objective of the product

Our team centered the idea of our product aiming to tackle target 12.2 (management of natural resources). This product focuses mainly to efficiently deal with the management of the vital natural resource, water. The product is automatic which is keen to tackle the problem of physical maintenance and lives a long and carefree life. It also aims to provide a healthier environment. The greater the management of water the cleaner the environment. Our most important objective is to provide an eco friendly, user friendly and most importantly an efficient product.

Product description

Our product consists of many parts such as :- croc wires, jumper wires, micro bit, buzzer, breadboard, DC pump, capacitve soil moisture sensor, battery, glue, cardboard, scissors, Breakout Board and Bulb. So this product helps in managing water as it has an alarm system when its either underwatered or overwatered. This can alert the user with the help of the buzzer. The DC pump is used with the help of tubing to fuel the plant with water in case it is under-watered. When the plant is overwatered it will alert the user with the help of an LED screen and a bulb that glows red which shows that its overwatered. When the plant is underwatered the screen will show that the plant is underwatered and the bulb glows red. If the water content in the plant is optimum then the bulb glows green. This system is useful and user-friendly as it is very easy to understand and the product as a whole is lightweight so it is portable and can be implemented in various areas.

What is its impact?

The self watering device as the name suggests is a product that tackles a major issue identified by the UN which is the management of natural resources (water). It helps prevent the overwatering and underwatering of plants, keeping them healthy. In the case of overwatering due to human error, this product minimises the chances and helps conserve water. In the future, this product can be upgraded to utilise clean energy sources like solar energy to operate, as this product doesn't require much energy to begin with.
